Flood Update May 28, 2013

Just need to vent a little today.  Yesterday I got my dryer working again and now am able to wash clothes which is a good thing.  Of course I had to move the dryer out and there was a lot of mud behind the dryer so I had to take care of the mud before fixing the dryer.  That seems to be the way it is going to be around here for a while.  I will go to work on a project and find that there are 10 other things to do before I can get to the project I was going to work on.  For instance, I pulled out the stove and cleaned the floor and then was going to move the stove back when all this water came out of the bottom of the stove.  I had to stop and clean out the bottom of the stove along with all the pans and cookie sheets, etc that were stored there.  It just seems that you work your butt off and then you look around and don't see much progress but I know I am making progress because I am tired and my body aches.  That has got to mean something, right?

This morning, one of my projects was to move the TV and stereo stuff out of the cabinet so I could move the cabinet and get that wet stinking carpet out of there.  I disconnected everything and of course most of the wiring was muddy so you have to stop and clean the wires and then wash your hands before you can move the TV and stereo.  I finally got all of that done and the carpet out and the tack strips up and the baseboards cleaned and the walls cleans.  Oh well, you get the idea.  I got the TV back up and working and I am going to leave the rest alone for now.  I can do without surround sound for a while.

The big screen TV is the living room doesn't turn on.  I pulled the back off and the Mother board was covered with wet mud.  I am letting it dry up for a few days and then I will take another look at it and see if I can get the dried up mud off and hopefully it will start and be okay but it is not a big priority right now.  I don't have a lot of time for TV now anyhow and as long as I can watch the Spurs play, I am good but I do miss the news.

On the good side, we have been able to borrow a moisture meter from one of our classmates.  We will be able to put the probe inside the walls and determine the level of moisture.  Some people are saying that the water wasn't in the house long enough for it to get inside the walls and the insulation.  This meter will tell us how much.  If the water didn't get into the insulation, we won't have to tear out sheet rock and insulation.  We are hoping that is the case.

We also heard on the news this morning that the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) might be a little bit at fault for the flooding due to the so called improvements they have been making to the river.  People from SARA come out here all the time to study the river and there was supposed to be a team come out today with some students to look at the confluence of the San Antonio River and Salado Creek.  The man called Margaret this morning and told her that they were canceling the trip until it dried out.  Margaret told him about the houses getting water in them and he said that there were a lot of complains and told Margaret to file a complaint on their web site and we might get some compensation.  We will wait and see on that.

Well, enough of a break for now.  HO HO its off to work I go.  Bah Humbug
